Love the arts and looking for something to do this summer?

Hartford is holding events throughout the next several months spotlighting local arts.

The Greater Hartford Arts Council alongside Mayor Arunan Arulampalam announced the third year of Hartford Creates. The partnership program between the city and the GHAC plays a key role in elevating access to the arts in the community and driving recognition for the impact the arts have on the local economy. The partnership helps create several events throughout the year spotlighting dance, music, theater, and public artworks.

“The Greater Hartford Arts Council is excited to unveil the 2024 Hartford Creates Arts Guide, featuring an array of art experiences that will be happening throughout this summer and fall,” said Dr. Shelley Best, CEO of the GHAC. “Our objective is to expand access to the arts with engaging events that inspire, transform, and uplift our community. We are dedicated to enhancing community vitality and boosting our creative economy through our programs, and investments in arts organizations and in artists. Join us in creating a vibrant Hartford region through the power of the arts!”

This year, Hartford Creates highlights include The Greater Hartford Festival of Jazz,  The Black-Eyed & Blues Festival, Street Stages, Pride Fest, Juneteenth Celebration & Empowerment Expo, Greater Hartford Gospel Fest and Theater Week.

“I’m thrilled to celebrate the success of the Hartford Creates Grant and for the summer lineup in store for our residents,” said Mayor Arulampalam. “In the past two years, Hartford Creates has hired over 2,900 artists to showcase their talents, and Hartford has seen just under one million Connecticut residents turn out to support and enjoy the talent and vibrancy that define Hartford. The City is proud to invest in our arts community by providing creative outlets and opportunities for our residents, and this summer’s lineup promises to be the best one yet.”

Additionally, GHAC has announced plans for the Art Star Photo Mosaic Mural, set to be the first crowd-funded art mural of its kind, as well as Hartford’s only photo mosaic mural. Anyone who donates will be included in the 20×20 foot mural, which will be made up of thousands of participants photos on a prominent downtown Hartford wall yet to be announced.
