Theaters Earning More From Snacks

In recent years, theaters have seen a surprising change in their profits. Snacks are now bringing in more money than ticket sales.

There’s something special about enjoying a movie with a big tub of popcorn or a refreshing cold drink.

Snacks are cheap to make, but theaters sell them for a good price, making a lot of profit. Plus, everyone loves snacks, no matter what movie they’re watching.

Reports from PVR Inox, a top multiplex chain in India, showed that from January to March 2024 and for the whole year, snack sales made more money than ticket sales.

In the fiscal year 2023-24, snack sales grew by 21%, reaching Rs 1,958.4 crore, while ticket sales grew by 19%, reaching Rs 3,279.9 crore.

The dry spell at the box office this year has come as a huge shock to the theaters. After disasters like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan, there haven’t been many releases this summer due to IPL and election season.

Due to this scenario also F&B (food and beverage) revenue growth has surpassed the box-office revenue growth rate. F&B is doing better than ticket revenue because a ticket costs around 300 bucks whereas one popcorn bucket along with a beverage costs Rs. 1000.
